From devastating personal loss came an extraordinary mission. After experiencing the deaths of three children, Kelly and Ryan Breaux founded Red Bird Ministries to ensure no grieving parent would face their journey alone. Since 2018, this remarkable organization has grown into a lifeline for over 1,300 people, offering holistic grief support through peer-led ministry and professional guidance.

THE CHALLENGE

For families experiencing child loss, traditional support systems often fall short.

"When I lost my daughter, I knew no one who had experienced the loss of a child... There's so much isolation and depression that can really take over one's life," explains Kelly, the founder and executive director of Red Bird Ministries.

The ministry needed a platform that could:

  • Enable clear, simple communication and be easy to use

  • Create a distraction-free environment for healing, away from the ads and distractions of Facebook

  • Provide accessible support and community for isolated families

  • Accommodate different stages of faith and healing

  • Keep costs low to ensure support remains accessible

"Your brain is broken in grief," explains Kelly, "Disciple is very easy to use, and that has been a gift."

THE SOLUTION

In Disciple, Red Bird Ministries found a platform that perfectly aligned with their mission. After trying another platform, they discovered it was both confusing to use and prohibitively expensive to create a branded space. Disciple offered the perfect combination: a professional, custom-branded platform at a cost that worked for their donor-supported model.

"We're ministering to people who've had to bury their child. The last thing we wanted was to have a financial burden that could limit families coming in to receive support," explains Kelly. "Disciple was both a better product and more cost-efficient for us as a nonprofit."

Through the platform, they've created a private sanctuary where grieving families can find support through:

  • A supportive community who have the shared experience of grieving the death of a child

  • Prayer and meditation groups for spiritual exploration

  • "Steam rooms" where raw emotions can be safely expressed

  • Memorial spaces for sharing photos and stories of their children

  • Specialized support groups for mothers and fathers

  • Professional resource sharing, courses, and referrals

  • In-person and digital events

IMPACT

MEETING PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE

Red Bird Ministries brings a deep understanding of what healing really means for grieving parents. "Acceptance really isn't that you're okay that it happened, but just that you live in the reality that it did," Kelly explains. "We meet people exactly where they are, but we love them enough not to leave them there. We try to really honor that journey for them and never push to for what they're not ready, but always invite them to something more when they are."

This profound insight shapes how they use the platform to support families - creating spaces where both grief and joy can coexist, where memories can be honored, and where healing can happen at each person's own pace.

Red Bird's approach is deeply thoughtful and person-centered. This philosophy extends to their use of technology: "When used for good, it can really make such a huge impact in one's life... not to replace human touch and human connection, but to be a bridge that builds to form relationships between people."

CONNECTING THROUGH SHARED EXPERIENCES

The impact of Red Bird Ministries extends far beyond numbers. The platform's ability to facilitate meaningful relationships is perfectly illustrated by one powerful story. Two families - one in Louisiana, one in Kentucky - whose infants passed away on the same day found each other through the community. What began in the app's private messaging evolved into genuine friendship.

"They were able to form a relationship through the community... and the following summer, they actually met in person," Kelly shares. "There's so much good that's being done, even if we're not even aware of it sometimes."

"After trying another platform, which was confusing and unaffordable, Disciple gave us everything we needed - custom branding, easy navigation, and the ability to create safe spaces where our families can truly connect without distractions."

CREATING SAFE SPACES

Through Disciple's flexible features, Red Bird Ministries has created a sanctuary that's vastly different from traditional social media. While Facebook bombards grieving families with ads, unrelated content, and constant distractions, their Disciple platform provides a focused, protected environment where healing can happen naturally.

"This is a place where people can come and honor their child openly and freely," Kelly explains. “Here, families find others who truly understand – who know exactly what this journey feels like.”

Without the noise of social media, without the fear of judgment, and without commercial interruptions, families can focus on what matters most: remembering their children and supporting each other through both difficult anniversaries and moments of joy.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR RED BIRD MINISTRIES?

Red Bird Ministries continues to expand its support offerings. Current initiatives include:

  • Developing resources for hospitals to support families during pregnancy loss

  • Growing their network of professional support across states

  • Planning events for significant dates like International Suicide Remembrance Day

  • Expanding their training programs for both peer leaders and professionals

Through their partnership with Disciple, Red Bird Ministries is breaking down barriers to support and creating connections that transform the journey through grief from one of isolation to one of shared understanding and hope.
